Rose Tobey

Rose was a Dallas artist whose creative career spanned more than four decades. Working in painting, printmaking, sculpture, mixed media, and assemblage, she became known for transforming everyday objects into imaginative works of art filled with color, humor, and heart.

A graduate of Southern Methodist University with highest honors, Rose continually challenged herself by exploring new materials and techniques. Using found objects, text, photographs, and sculptural elements, she created whimsical assemblages that reflected her memories, personal experiences, and deep appreciation for family and everyday life. As she explained, "Memories and personal experiences add a creative dimension to my work... That is the magic in art."

Rose exhibited in more than one hundred solo and group exhibitions throughout Texas and served as President of the Texas Visual Arts Association's Dallas Region. Shortly before her passing in 2005, she was honored with a retrospective exhibition celebrating her artistic achievements, and the Texas Visual Arts Association established the Rose Tobey Scholarship Fund to support emerging artists in her memory.
