Don Boyle
Don was a fixture of New York City's underground art and music scene throughout the 1980s and 1990s. From Fire Island to Sugar Reef, he was known as a charismatic dance party host and, for many years, the welcoming doorman at the legendary Clit Club, where his warmth and larger-than-life personality made him a beloved presence.
A prolific visual artist, Don worked across a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, dolls, and masks. His creativity also became part of New York's nightlife culture through an iconic illustration he created for the Clit Club, which appeared on posters, invitations, stickers, T-shirts, and even tattoos. Years after his death, the image was recreated by the Clit Club community as a tribute to both the artwork and the artist who created it.
Remembered as both an artist and a beloved member of New York's downtown creative community, Don left behind a body of work that reflected the imagination, humor, and vibrant spirit with which he lived his life.
